My Reluctant Reader FAQ

Here are a few frequent questions about us and about our services. If you don't find the answer to your question here, please Contact Us.

How are the books selected for my child?

Upon subscription you will receive an online survey that will give us some basic information about your child and their reading habits as well as their interests. We will use this information to choose books that we feel are a good fit for your child. Each month we will ask for you to let us know how each book worked out and adjust future selections as needed.

There are a lot of kid's book clubs out there, why choose My Reluctant Reader?

As educators, we are passionate about getting kids and young adults to read! We read the books we recommend and we stay current with the trends in literature which helps us match your child with the right books. Finding books that get children fully engaged opens up a world of imagination and wonder.

How do I know if my child is a reluctant reader? And what can I do if he/she is?

Many children struggle with finding books that are interesting for them. Often this leads to them being described as "not a reader". A reluctant reader is any child that does not find interest in taking the time to read books.

Our philosophy is that even though a child might not currently enjoy reading, the reality is that many children simply haven't found the right books to ignite their interest in reading. Placing the right books with them allows the best opportunity for successful reading comprehension and enjoyment.

Why is your service great for homeschooling or school book reports?

When children are reading for an assignment, having them work from the right book is essential for an excellent result. If your child is trying to review or report on a book that they cannot enjoy or comprehend the result very likely will not be successful.

A subscription to our service will have your child receiving two great books each month chosen specifically upon their likes, dislikes and interests. This allows them the opportunity to not only enjoy the book but be able to share what they have learned and enjoyed about that book with others.

What if we receive a book my child already owns or has read?

No worries at all. Our goal is your complete satisfaction with our service. If you have a duplicate book just send it back to us and we will promptly send out a replacement for you.

What is the cost for shipping? Will I be charged sales tax?

Shipping is charged at a flat rate of $3 per month. Your books will be shipped via USPS media mail. Tax will be added for residents in the state of Missouri.
